Who knows, perhaps you have come to your position for such a time as this.
Esther 4:14, HCSB
What a time is this. The passing of our friend and Imara Chair Emeritus, Larry Welliver saddens our hearts. Imara would not be what it is, nor perhaps even exist without Larry’s vision and his tireless efforts on behalf of the young women and children of Imara. Larry was not only an inspired leader, he was a friend and mentor to many. Imara has been blessed, we have been blessed, and many lives halfway around the world have been blessed, because he is part of our story. As we grieve Larry’s passing, we joyfully welcome new babies to Imara house.
Larry Welliver, 75, passed away on April 19, 2021, surrounded by his family. He served Imara alongside his wife, Kathy, since its founding in 2011. Although Larry served as Chairman of the Board for 8 years, his duties did not end there. Larry made certain every detail was covered from Imara’s first board meeting, so this fledgling non-profit could operate in two different countries. Trips to Kenya, entailed carrying over all that was needed to get Imara House up and running. He planned, engineered, built and made certain all was secure for these young teen moms. There are few pictures of Larry because he was always on the other side of the camera. All that he accomplished paled in comparison to his faith and spiritual leadership for every Imara mom and her child, every staff member, mission team member and Imara supporter.
